Sclerotherapy

Thread veins of the lower legs are present in approximately 20 percent of the population. While these veins do not pose any major health problems, they may be unsightly, embarrassing and may cause discomfort.

Sclerotherapy is the direct injection of a concentrated saline in to the visible vein or telangectasia. The solution displaces the blood and irritates the inner lining of the vessel causing closure of the vessel, thereby preventing the blood re-entering the vein. The thread veins will gradually fade and within two to eight weeks following treatment some will completely disappear.

Several treatments sessions will be required to achieve optimum results. Following each treatment you are expected to wear medium support tights for approximately one week. For the first 48 hours after treatment it is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, hot baths or saunas.

Sclerotherapy is relatively safe and effective and can be performed in the consulting room. Recurrence can occur over a period of one to five years. The treatment does not Baby Dolls prevent new thread veins from forming. If the veins are bigger than 8mm in diameter the better option would be surgical vein stripping.

Treatment may vary from 15-30 minutes each time. The number of treatments can vary depending upon above factors. The beauty of the treatment is there is no down time involved. You can resume your regular work immediately. Pain is generally mild. Swelling and bruising can occur, but limiting sun exposure will greatly minimise the risk of complications.
